Key Distinguishing characteristics
This is a 2 ½ story, symmetrical house with the second-story overhang in the front. The traditional ornamentation is four carved drops (pineapple or acorn shape) below the overhang.
Other Distinguishing Characteristics
- Exterior chimney at the end
- Older versions have casement windows with small panes of glass
- Later versions have double-hung windows
- Second-story windows often are smaller than those on the first floor
- Dormers often break through the cornice line
